For as much as the LEGO minifigure is a wonderful catch-all for characters across multiple licensed themes, from Star Wars and The Simpsons to Super Heroes and SpongeBob SquarePants, there are a few instances where its unyielding proportions don’t quite hit the mark. And over the past couple of decades, that’s led to some wild experimentation from the LEGO Group.
Shorter (and now mid-size) minifigure legs are par for the course in 2022, but communicating additional height in a minifigure hasn’t really been attempted since the heady days of 2010, when LEGO Toy Story introduced longer legs for Woody and Jessie. Those lengthy limbs were left forgotten when Woody, Buzz and the gang returned in 2019, suggesting the element had been retired for good.
