How to upgrade the final LEGO NINJAGO anniversary minifigure

The final LEGO NINJAGO 15th-anniversary minifigure has been confirmed, and its original hair piece is gone, but an upgrade is entirely possible.

The Master of Shadow from the Elemental Alliance has been confirmed as the last of the seven 15th-anniversary minifigures in NINJAGO's upcoming 71867 X-1 Ninja Charger. The June 2026 set was revealed yesterday, launching over a decade after the Master of Shadow first appeared in the Spellbound episode.

The character's animated design uses a black version of the hair piece that debuted in the 11th minifigure series from 2013. It was used for the Pretzel Girl and is distinct for the two pigtails at the back. This is the only physical appearance of the part, which is certainly now retired.

As such, the Master of Shadow's first physical minifigure in 71867 X-1 Ninja Charger uses another element with a pigtail, but in dark brown instead of black. Promotional artwork and animated appearances have only ever depicted her with black hair, rather than brown.

This means that, in part due to a long-retired element, the hair on the 71867 X-1 Ninja Charger minifigure is inaccurate and in need of an upgrade. Thankfully, there's one readily available that will work almost perfectly.

LEGO Wednesday has debuted since the Master of Shadow was revealed, including a recreation of the titular character's hair for her mini-doll. This piece is coloured black with a split in the middle and two pigtails. All it's missing is the short strand of hair covering one of the eyebrows, but it's more than close enough to sufficiently upgrade the Master of Shadow minifigure.

Mini-doll hair pieces can be applied to minifigures without an issue, though tests have confirmed that this hair element will sit slightly higher on a minifigure than most pieces. Despite this, it's your best bet at upgrading the NINJAGO minifigure to be more accurate, and it can be found in two current sets. Those are 76784 Black Dahlia Flower at £19.99 / $27.99 / €24.99, and 76786 Morticia's Cottage at £89.99 / $109.99 / €99.99.

Alternatively, the part is available individually on Pick a Brick for £1.52 / $1.72 / €1.75, but ordering it alone will incur a service fee. It might be worth adding it to your next parts order on the service, or scavenging it from one of the Wednesday models.

71867 X-1 Ninja Charger will be released on June 1, 2026, or August 1 in the US, for £69.99 / $89.99 / €79.99. The 691-piece set also includes a remake of the 2014 car, as well as Kai and General Cryptor minifigures.
