The upcoming LEGO Ideas sets I'm most excited for

LEGO Ideas has 16 sets in production, and I'm personally excited about a specific selection of them, regardless of their official builds.

It's going to be a busy year, if not more, for the LEGO Ideas team, with work to be done to transform 16 total projects into official sets, many of which are based on massive submissions. With much already on my wishlist, only a select few of these projects are absolute must-haves to me for a variety of reasons.

Thankfully (for my bank account), none of the submissions currently in the parking lot are too appealing to me, though The Old Man & the Sea may be more tempting depending on the execution of the official set.

With 2025 coming to a close and another year of LEGO Ideas sets upon us, here are the LEGO Ideas sets I'm most excited for, and why I'll be picking up these builds no matter how they look as official sets.

Floating Sea Otter

LEGO Ideas Floating Sea Otter 1024x576

The Floating Sea Otter by Maximilian Lambrecht is an instant purchase when it is transformed into an official creation. Since long before LEGO otters debuted in 2020's 75966 Hogwarts Room of Requirement, I've loved these adorable animals and have been fascinated with the different species, from sea otters to giant otters.

I've already made it my mission to collect the different types of LEGO otters for the various species they represent, adding those from Harry Potter, City and Friends to my collection, and a buildable version will float nicely alongside them. Much of LEGO Ideas' previous animal builds, including insects and birds, have never appealed to me, but a half-submerged Otter model is both adorable and an interesting concept that is sure to look eye-catching on display.

I will be keeping a close eye on this creation as it transitions from project to product, but it's not nearly the only one on my list of LEGO Ideas must-haves.

Wallace & Gromit

LEGO Ideas Wallace Gromit 1024x683

From 10350 Tudor Corner to 21347 Red London Telephone Box, I have been enjoying the recent trend of British-adjacent LEGO models, and was incredibly pleased to see both Mr. Bean and Wallace & Gromit in the second half of the '90s IP challenge. Deciding which of these projects would get my vote was not an easy decision, and it took me days to deliberate on.

In the end, I voted for Pidelium's depiction of Wallace & Gromit for how closely it captures the iconic claymation appearance of the characters, and I can only hope that the official model stays true to this design. Either way, Wallace & Gromit was a huge part of my childhood and gave me an appreciation for animation in all forms. The Boop campaign has demonstrated just how willing Aardman and the LEGO Group are to work together, making me all the more excited about this upcoming LEGO Ideas set

Build, Paint and Play!

LEGO Ideas doomslizer build paint play 1024x683

In case you couldn't tell from my LEGO Ideas D&D set review, miniature-based gaming is a huge hobby of mine, and I've enjoyed many nights assembling and painting miniatures with friends. In campaigns, we've even combined custom LEGO miniatures with classic painted ones, and that's the main reason why I was eager to vote for Doomslizer's Build, Paint and Play submission in the hobby challenge.

Unfortunately for my wallet, this set is going to be a gift-with-purchase with qualifying orders, but no matter what, I'll have to find a way to reach its threshold when it is confirmed. The proposed model includes a mat, paints, sprue with miniature parts, tools and even a complete miniature. I haven't enjoyed an original concept for a LEGO set as much as this in quite some time, and am excited to see what the LEGO Ideas designers do with the pitch.

Go Go Power Rangers!

LEGO Ideas Go Go Power Rangers LEGO Megazord 1

There were many projects in the first 2025 review which I had my eye on, and I'm pleased that TrumanBricks’ Go Go Power Rangers! project has been picked for an upcoming set. Right at the start of my LEGO journey during my childhood, I was also gifted many of the Mega Bloks Power Rangers sets, my favourite of which was the Storm Megazord.

I have since given away those builds and didn't miss them until TrumanBricks' submission was selected for a set. 21311 Voltron was tempting, but I don't have the same affinity for Voltron as I do Power Rangers. This has become my most anticipated LEGO Ideas model, especially if it comes with minifigures as proposed.
