Ever wanted to Michael Bay-ify LEGO Icons 10338 Bumblebee? We put some alternate build instructions to the test.
Both 10338 Bumblebee and his predecessor 10302 Optimus Prime are based on the 1980s era of Transformers. The colours and general concept – a vehicle that can turn into a humanoid figure – remain the same but stylistically, they're very different to the Michael Bay movie series that a lot of younger fans might be more familiar with.
The Michael Bay movies saw the Autobots adopt a more aggressive look, something that's especially noticeable with the mild-mannered Bumblebee. In the animated show and in 10338 Bumblebee, the yellow Autobot is depicted with wider eyes, smaller stature, and rounded edges.
Bay's Bumblebee is still less battle-hardened than some of the other Autobots but he looks more rough and ready than his animated forefather. If you prefer his most recent look, then worry not – Brick Fanatics' Matthew has tested out an alternative build by Ransom_Fern on Rebrickable to see what happens when you add a few more explosions to the mix.
