The LEGO NINJAGO Movie BrickHeadz 41488 Master Wu review

Brick Fanatics takes a look at 41488 Master Wu to size up whether this LEGO NINJAGO BrickHeadz is as sensei-tional in the brick as he is on screen Price: £9.99 / $9.99 / €9.99 Pieces: 89 Available: Now With only one of the ninja represented in the current BrickHeadz lineup, the LEGO Group opted to delve into The LEGO NINJAGO Movie and give fans Master Wu as well. This choice was no doubt helped by the character's distinctive design and role in the movie, where Wu was voiced by the legendary actor and martial arts expert Jackie Chan. As the second smallest of the LEGO BrickHeadz theme, with a piece count coming in at just 89 pieces (41589 Captain America currently holds the lowest piece count at 79), the designer has certainly been economical in parts, but this isn’t necessarily a negative issue here. The build is somewhat quicker to finish than 41487 Lloyd, but I still enjoyed the end result enough to feel Master Wu looks great alongside my other BrickHeadz characters. The torso is a very straightforward build with just one printed brick on the front that adequately details his robes, as seen on the minifigure version based on the film. Another printed 1x4 brick can be found on the back with the same logo as seen on Lloyd’s back, and more prominently on the back sail of 70618 Destiny’s Bounty. [gallery columns="4" size="medium" ids="30366,30367,30368,30370"] The head is usually the most interesting part of the build with a BrickHeadz set, but in this instance it is nothing worth shouting about. That is not to say it lacks resemblance for the source of inspiration, there is just not much to it. Plain yellow tiles adorn the majority of the sides due to Master Wu’s lack of hair, but I did enjoy the brief use of an upside down technique to attach his wispy white beard. Topping him off (literally) are tan-coloured radar dishes to represent his Asian farmer’s hat, which sees a nice return for the 8x8 dish last seen in 4480 Jabba’s Palace way back in 2003. A couple of 1x2 plates for legs on the bottom and a staff for his hand finished the build, leaving 41488 Master Wu ready for displaying on the 6x6 base plate, featuring the same retail exclusive tile found on 41487 Lloyd, 41485 Finn and 41486 Captain Phasma. The great thing about the BrickHeadz is that even if you are not interested in the theme as a whole, they can make for excellent parts packs. Master Wu features slightly less interesting pieces than some of the other characters, but still provides a good opportunity to pick up the 8x8 and 6x6 tan radar dish, the latter of which is new to the set in this colour. If you’re a NINJAGO fan then you will probably want to pick this one up, otherwise there are plenty of other, more interesting BrickHeadz sets to build that might be more deserving of your hard earned cash.
