The 10 biggest LEGO sets of 2023 

It’s been a bumper year for new LEGO sets, including some especially huge models from familiar themes and one that made a grand return. 

With over 900 new LEGO products in 2023, there were inevitably going to be some massive builds to collect and display. Looking back at the year gone by though, it’s clear that this was a huge year for equally huge LEGO sets. Within that selection, the sheer variety of models on offer is colossal too from buildings to spaceships and a life-sized prop. 

From Marvel to the largest modular building ever and even LEGO The Lord of the Rings, here are the 10 biggest LEGO sets released in 2023. 

10 – 10312 Jazz Club 

Theme: LEGO Icons Price: £199.99 / $229.99 / €229.99 Pieces: 2,899

10312 Jazz Club is one of two LEGO modular buildings released in 2023 as an incredibly unfamiliar move for the collection. This entry into the expansive LEGO street offers a spot for minifigures to relax to the sound of smooth jazz and a pizzeria for cravings of all kinds. 

LEGO 10312 Jazz Club is the 18th set in the LEGO Modular Buildings Collection and it stands at 2,899 pieces. It’s by no means the biggest LEGO set and isn't even the biggest modular building on this list. The traditional single-baseplate size of 10312 Jazz Club makes it easily compatible with other LEGO modular buildings –something that can’t be quite as easily said for the other LEGO modular building released this year. 

9 – 76262 Captain America’s Shield 

Theme: Marvel Price: £179.99 / $199.99 / €209.99 Pieces: 3,128

LEGO Marvel has had a big year, including the release of the latest huge superhero prop recreation. 76262 Captain America’s Shield is an undoubtedly repetitive model but its 3,128 pieces put it a level above similar sets including 76209 Thor's Hammer. 

76262 Captain America’s Shield comes equipped with a nearly life-sized depiction of the iconic shield as well as a display stand and a Captain America minifigure. The minifigure includes a mini Mjolnir, suggesting that this set is intended to be displayed alongside 76209 Thor's Hammer as a homage to Avengers: Endgame. 

8 – 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box 

Theme: DC Price: £344.99 / $399.99 / €399.99 Pieces: 3,981

After a quieter year for LEGO DC in 2022, the theme came in swinging in 2023 with the biggest Batman build ever designed. From the outside, the 3,981-piece 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box might appear to be a black box with Batman’s symbol cut out. Inside though, you’ll find the most detailed recreation of the Batcave ever, complete with a Batmobile too. 

This Batcave is based on 1992’s Batman Returns movie, and it has matching minifigures to boot. 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box is a treat for LEGO DC enthusiasts and its lighting makes it one of the most interesting sets to appreciate in low light too. 

7 – 10326 Natural History Museum 

Theme: LEGO Icons Price: £259.99 / $299.99 / €299.99 Pieces: 4,014

Launched on December 1, 10326 Natural History Museum is the second LEGO modular building for 2023. Usually, new entries into the collection would be released on January 1 each year but the LEGO Group is trying something new with 2024’s new modular. 

10326 Natural History Museum seems likely to be considered the 2024 entry into the collection internally, but its release in 2023 is undeniable, unfamiliar and simply unusual for the range. Its piece count of 4,014 makes it the biggest LEGO modular building ever as well, not that it needed another accolade. Stretching over one-and-a-half baseplates, its impressive size should overcome how awkward it may be to fit into your street.

6 - 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition 

Theme: Harry Potter Price: £369.99 / $429.99 / €429.99 Pieces: 4,803

LEGO Harry Potter 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition may be a mouthful, but it’s also one of the biggest models in the theme so far and certainly the largest in 2023. It’s the most detailed depiction of the bank so far and has a unique multi-level structure that adds some significant height to the set. 

At 4,803 pieces, 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition is also designed to be compatible with the previously released Diagon Alley model to finally finish the most crucial parts of the location. This is a landmark LEGO Harry Potter set and undoubtedly the ultimate Gringotts model too. 

5 – 43222 Disney Castle 

Theme: Disney Price: £344.99 / $399.99 / €399.99 Pieces: 4,837

The second iteration of a massive LEGO Disney Castle improves on and makes a few key changes to the 2016 set after it recently retired following an extensive life on shelves. 43222 Disney Castle’s main difference is in its minifigures and colour scheme, opting for princes and princesses instead of Mickey and his friends. 

Featuring 4,837 elements, 43222 Disney Castle’s interior is rife with references and notably expansive spaces to display the many exclusive minifigures included in the set. It’s the biggest LEGO Disney set by piece count so far and it seems likely to keep that spot for years to come, should 71040 Disney Castle’s life be any indication. 

4 – 76269 Avengers Tower 

Theme: Marvel Price: £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99 Pieces: 5,201

As well as the massive shield, 76269 Avengers Tower is LEGO Marvel’s biggest build so far. It’s a similar set to (and is compatible with) 76178 Daily Bugle and 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum and can be displayed next to the LEGO modular buildings.  

Including 5,201 pieces and 13 minifigures, 76269 Avengers Tower is the LEGO Marvel Avengers Tower model we’ve been waiting for. Its staggering size means it's destined to stand out from the rest of the sets in your collection – even 76178 Daily Bugle. 

3 – 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser 

Theme: Star Wars Price: £559.99 / $649.99 / €649.99 Pieces: 5,374

It wouldn’t be the biggest LEGO sets list without a LEGO Star Wars set as the theme continues its tradition of massive models with 2023’s 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser.  

The latest LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series prequel set depicts the triangular cruiser before its Empire makeover complete with the signature red stripe, two exclusive and long-awaited minifigures and a hefty display stand using 5,374 pieces overall. 

2 – 71799 NINJAGO City Markets 

Theme: NINJAGO Price: £319.99 / $369.99 / €369.99 Pieces: 6,163

Since the start of NINJAGO City with the LEGO NINJAGO Movie’s 70620 NINJAGO City in 2017, the range has continued to innovate and increase in size over the years. This year, those efforts saw the launch of the 6,163-piece 71799 NINJAGO City Markets. 

Spanning over two full baseplates, 71799 NINJAGO City Markets is by far the largest LEGO NINJAGO set ever. Its significance to LEGO NINJAGO enthusiasts can’t be understated too thanks largely to its minifigures with several firsts, including the final Elemental Master minifigure for collectors, Cyrus Borg and the unusual Detective Zane. 

1 – 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell 

Theme: LEGO Icons Price: £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99 Pieces: 6,167

Considering how long we’ve waited for more LEGO The Lord of the Rings sets – eight years – 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell only makes sense as the biggest new LEGO set of 2023. At 6,167 pieces, the fantastical location has finally received the LEGO set it deserves after the comparatively minuscule 79006 The Council of Elrond.
