There’s still no way of telling apart LEGO Collectible Minifigures

The latest series of LEGO Collectible minifigures is still blind-boxed and despite recent efforts, there may still be no way of telling boxes apart.

Hitting shelves on January 1, 2024, 71045 Series 25 has reached some enthusiasts early, including Brick Fanatics, and inspired some more testing to figure out whether or not there's a way to tell which minifigure is in which box.

As with 71039 Marvel Series 2, all 12 minifigures in 71045 Series 25 are featured in cardboard boxes to reduce the LEGO Group's use of non-sustainable materials. The move away from foil bags eliminates the possibility of feeling for certain elements.

Soon after the launch of the Marvel minifigures, attempts were made to determine a surefire way to guarantee which minifigure is in a box, though none have proven to be completely foolproof. One of the various discovered methods has been used by Ashnflash and Jay's Brick Blog, both of whom have provided guides to the weights of 71045 Series 25's characters.

While these guides may be helpful to a degree, they don't take into account the possibility that slightly different amounts of glue may have been applied to each box during production. More data, including weighing empty boxes to see if the amount of glue is a potential issue, may change this, but keep it in mind and take the guides with at least some caution when you're looking for dozens of the returning LEGO goat.

This method of telling apart the blind-boxed minifigures is essentially as reliable as it was for 71039 Marvel Series 2. You may find yourself with every minifigure, but some of their weights could be close enough for the method to not be wholly foolproof. Unless you physically open the boxes (after you've bought them) there's still no entirely accurate way of telling blind-boxed minifigures apart.

Thankfully, this may not be an issue forever as the LEGO Group has addressed frustrations and issues surrounding the packaging, though they've stated that any possible change that may happen won’t be seen for at least a few more waves. No changes are confirmed at the time of writing, but it appears that isn't off the table entirely.
