Star Wars: Skeleton Crew reportedly delayed by an entire year

A second source has reiterated that upcoming live-action Star Wars show Skeleton Crew has been pushed back by an entire year, and will now target a holiday 2024 release date.

While Disney and Lucasfilm have not yet confirmed a specific release date for the Jude Law-fronted series, it’s always been on the cards for 2023. But with just one month of the year left to go, that's looking more impossible than improbable. Reports emerged from Bespin Bulletin in September that the show had been pushed back possibly as far as November 2024 – a claim now corroborated by Making Star Wars.

“I have now heard from two different sources that it would be sometime after Halloween,” MSW’s Jason Ward said in a live YouTube show. “Today I talked to somebody who said that they – and this is a Lucasfilm person – expect it to be holiday 2024. Christmas season. When I hear holiday season, usually that would mean around Thanksgiving to Christmas.”

Skeleton Crew – which is helmed by Spider-Man MCU director Jon Watts – was originally believed to be arriving in late 2023, so this would be a delay of an entire year if true. And it throws into peril one of the first LEGO Star Wars sets rumoured for 2024, which is said to be a 1,325-piece recreation of a vehicle from the show, priced at €139.99 in Europe. That was originally slated to arrive in January, but its release date is presumably now up in the air (if it exists at all).

The Star Wars TV show calendar is pretty vague all-round at the moment, but MSW predicts that The Acolyte will drop in 2024 ahead of Skeleton Crew, while Andor Season 2 could end up being pushed back to 2025. Bespin Bulletin previously reported that The Acolyte was due to release in the second quarter of 2024, but has also experienced delays, and is now believed to be coming in August.

That would then be the next time we see live-action Star Wars on screens following Ahsoka, but animated series The Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi are still in the mix somewhere. So there’s plenty for the LEGO Group to fill 2024 with, presuming it already has sets in the works for at least some of those shows – but we could be waiting a good while before that rumoured Skeleton Crew set arrives.

Skeleton Crew stars Jude Law, Kerry Condon, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Tunde Adebimpe, Kyriana Kratter and Robert Timothy Smith, and follows a group of four kids who end up lost in a ‘strange and dangerous galaxy’, according to the show’s synopsis. It’s previously been billed as The Goonies meets Star Wars.
