One small feature on LEGO Toothless cements timing of How To Train Your Dragon set

LEGO Icons 10375 How To Train Your Dragon: Toothless is hooked to the live-action remake of the movie – but not based on it.

A small detail in 10375 How To Train Your Dragon: Toothless is testament to the designer Jae Won Lee's love for the franchise, placing it in the context of the second movie in the trilogy. That's despite it being released to celebrate the live-action remake of the first movie, which came out in cinemas on June 13.

"I really loved the first movie," Jae explained in a roundtable that Brick Fanatics attended. "But I really loved the second one. That's why I used this logo for 10375 How To Train Your Dragon: Toothless, it came from the second movie.

"In the first movie, the logo is a little bit different; he got a new tail, fins, and saddle for the second movie. This logo shows the growth of their friendship getting stronger and stronger [throughout the franchise]."

The skull on his tail is flipped, with a separate element added below, which is the version we get in the LEGO Icons set. In actual fact, the fin and its prosthetic attachment for Hiccup's leg is refined throughout the movies, following the relationship between boy and dragon, as well as the various battles they face.

It requires modification when Hiccup loses his leg, for example, and in the short film Gift of the Night Fury, the red fin was replaced entirely with a darker brown auto-tail. The lack of cables gave Toothless the ability to fly on his own, without any input from Hiccup.

LEGO Icons 10375 How To Train Your Dragon: Toothless launches on July 1, 2025, with 784 pieces for £59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99.
