How to shake up the LEGO Winter Village with a bigger budget

How to shake up the LEGO Winter Village with a bigger budget

The LEGO Winter Village is rumoured to be peaking above $100 for the first time, hopefully increasing the budget for the next build accordingly.

Rumour has it that the next LEGO Winter Village set will be following the trend of recent price increases and new US tariffs, with a reported cost of $130. Compared to the usual $99.99, that's a 30% increase in a price that has never peaked above that total, no matter how big the models have become.

This rumour is to be taken with plenty of caution until an official announcement arrives, but optimistically, there's a lot the LEGO Winter Village could do with an increased cost (and ideally an equally increased budget). Here are a few ways a higher price would be able to shake up the LEGO Winter Village Collection.

More landscaping

Additional landscaping side builds offer efficient expansions to the LEGO Winter Village, such as the small but effective ice rink in 10325 Alpine Lodge. They don't use up much of the piece count, yet they're not too common in the collection over the past 15 years.

With the rumoured price increase, more landscape-focused side builds would be useful for collectors and easily expand the footprint of the 2025 set's scene. The potential they offer for small character interactions in the wider Winter Village range is extensive, as well, inherently adding value to any LEGO Winter Village model.

Festive printed details

Much like the printed golden detailing in 21343 Viking Village, similar printed pieces with a festive twist can add a whimsical, seasonal touch to any standard building and such decorations can easily add value to a LEGO set without affecting the piece count.

As 21343 Viking Village, using the same printed part multiple times can effectively add detail to any building, and it's a great framework for the LEGO Winter Village to follow, since the sets traditionally feature few decorated elements. 10235 Winter Village Market includes similar details, featuring exquisite printing on the carousel's horses.

The fantastical side of the Winter Village, such as 10339 Santa's Post Office would especially benefit from such whimsical decorations to differentiate them further from the more grounded half of the collection.

The complete annual experience

The most recent LEGO Winter Village set, 10339 Santa's Post Office, includes 1,440 pieces. That's great value for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 but it's not the complete Winter Village experience for 2024. 40746 Santa's Delivery Truck undoubtedly expands on 10339 Santa's Post Office, rounding out the set with a vehicle to deliver the presents and mail by land.

Whether this sets a precedent for future years of the LEGO Winter Village collection or not, it would be nice to get the complete LEGO Winter Village experience in one package, should there be a price increase moving forwards.

Exclusive minifigures, again

LEGO Winter Village sets have never been known for their exclusive and enticing minifigures, but that doesn't mean the collection hasn't had any.

From the gingerbread couple in 10267 Gingerbread House to the choir singers in 10199 Winter Village Toy Shop and 10249 Winter Toy Shop, exclusive minifigures are an effective method of adding value to LEGO sets, as we recently saw in 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine.

These exclusive minifigures can take several forms, as demonstrated by the gingerbread minifigures, leaving the LEGO designers with the opportunity to get more creative with the Winter Village minifigures again.
