LEGO Star Trek is rumoured to finally become a reality next year but it might be slightly too early to make the most out of its reported debut.
Instagram user (and typically reliable source) a.clay.brick is closing out 2024 with word of a LEGO Icons Star Trek model coming in 2025 and while it remains just a rumour at the time of writing, it's still an exciting prospect for long-time LEGO enthusiasts.
After 25 years of LEGO Star Wars, the very idea of LEGO Star Trek is interesting and while no further details are rumoured at the time of writing, a brick-built Enterprise seems to be the most obvious choice for a debut build based on the iconic science fiction franchise. While a bigger build seems more likely, BRICK 101 demonstrates that the ship's iconic shape can be captured with a minimal number of elements
There have been many versions of the ship over the years and eras of Star Trek, but the design from the original 1966 series remains arguably the most recognisable Enterprise. Speaking of the original series, it will be celebrating its 59th anniversary on September 8, 2025, and its 60th in 2026, marking the anniversary of Star Trek as a whole.
According to the rumour, LEGO Star Trek will begin in 2025 – likely in time for the 59th anniversary. Given that this would be the debut of LEGO Star Trek, it seems unfortunate that it wouldn't be held back by one year to time with the 60th anniversary, making the most of both the anniversary and the debut of LEGO Star Trek.
On the other hand, introducing LEGO Star Trek before the 60th anniversary means that whatever comes as part of the rumour would certainly be on shelves and it would give the LEGO Group time to measure demand and ensure that there's enough stock accordingly. There might be an opportunity to debut a special second LEGO Star Trek set for the 60th anniversary too.
Whatever the case, LEGO Star Trek is rumoured to be debuting in the same year as the 59th anniversary of the original series and the franchise, potentially missing an opportunity to mark the occasion ideally, but leaving room for monitoring stock levels and expanding the offerings to boot.
LEGO Star Trek remains just a rumour for now and you should treat it with a pinch of salt just in case it ends up being inaccurate. LEGO Star Wars is confirmed to continue next year in the meantime and you can see what else is in store for next year by clicking here.
