LEGO Marvel fans are criticising the focus of one rumoured set – but it could make sense for an entirely different movie than it's intended for.
The latest LEGO Marvel rumours offer a more detailed description of the potential upcoming 76291 The Avengers Assemble: Age of Ultron. Thanks to reports from brick_clicker relayed by itavixbrix, it now seems that the LEGO Marvel set is expected to include a snowy landscape and specifically is not believed to be based on the final battle from Age of Ultron but instead on the opening sequence on Sokovia. This has not gone down well with some LEGO Marvel fans, writing on reddit about their dissatisfaction.
"The Age of Ultron set being based on the opening battle and not the end one is... Ugh. No Vision, no Quicksilver, no Ultron, no interest from me," wrote one commenter, while another added: "Having the Age of Ultron set be of the opening sequence instead of the final battle is so dumb."
Indeed, the very nature of the final battle does lend itself well to the style of sets like 76261 Spider-Man Final Battle and 76266 Endgame Final Battle, even more so than those first two versions. Centred around the core and with a pretty even split of flying and grounded heroes, it would work very neatly in a circular, tower-style build. In contrast, the opening sequence battle is more like a series of pocket fights, with less interaction between all the Avengers.

However, those dissatisfied comments have illuminated a way that 76291 The Avengers Assemble: Age of Ultron could kill two birds with one stone. Judging from the initial trailer for Deadpool 3 (stick with us here), it looks a lot like Deadpool will head to Sokovia as part of his engagement with the TVA, visiting the very same snowy woods that appeared in the movie and are rumoured to be the back drop to 76291 The Avengers Assemble: Age of Ultron.
With 76291 The Avengers Assemble: Age of Ultron's rumoured release date of August 1, 2024 comes just after Deadpool 3's premiere on July 26. Now, we're not suggesting that the LEGO Marvel set is actually a Deadpool set in disguise. After all, the rumoured minifigure line-up has no mention of Deadpool or any non-Age of Ulton characters and there's the title 'Age of Ultron' in the rumoured title, so it seems unlikely at best that it's an intentional crossover. Still, it might make the $109.99 price tag seem a little more worth it, with the option to add in a Deadpool minifigure and turn it into a multi-movie LEGO Marvel set.
