Retiring LEGO Icons sets guide: buy now, hold out or skip?

With 10 LEGO Icons models scheduled for retirement in 2025, which sets should you grab now, wait for potential deals on or simply pass by?

We’re only half way through 2025, but we’re already keeping one eye on later this year when it comes to retiring LEGO Icons sets. There are 10 such models due to depart in the months to come and once they have, they’ll be gone for good.

With this list, we’ll be taking a look at which retiring LEGO Icons sets you should definitely be picking up before then, the builds that may be reduced in price at some point in the near future and those models from the theme that are probably best left off your shopping list altogether.

It’s worth noting that many of the more popular retiring LEGO Icons sets may well sell out long before December 31 rolls around, so if you are thinking about making a purchase, you just need to be aware that the clock is indeed ticking.

With that in mind, we’ve highlighted a selection of five LEGO Icons models scheduled to retire at the end of 2025 below, making our suggestions as to whether or not each one is worth your consideration. Don’t forget you can always take a look at the complete list of LEGO sets retiring in 2025 right here.

10297 Boutique Hotel

Price: £199.99 / $229.99 / €229.99 Pieces: 3,066 Release date: Jan 1, 2022

LEGO for Adults 10297 Boutique Hotel 41 1024x576

If you haven’t already added 10297 Boutique Hotel to your LEGO Modular Buildings Collection, you absolutely should. The 3,066-piece model perfectly captures everything that’s great about such sets, bringing something fresh to the table for veteran builders and proving endlessly satisfying to assemble.

Featuring a unique, angled design, plus a bold and vibrant colour scheme, 10297 Boutique Hotel is a standout addition to the LEGO Icons theme. The set often pops up with a slight discount at some third party retailers, so if you spot it with a saving, you should have no hesitation parting with your cash.

10305 Lion Knights’ Castle

Price: £344.99 / $399.99 / €399.99 Pieces: 4,514 Release date: Aug 3, 2022

LEGO 10305 Lion Knights Castle lifestyle 2 featured 1024x576

Fans of Classic Castle sets were delivered a treat back in 2022, thanks to the arrival of 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle. Boasting 4,514 pieces and a whopping 22 minifigures, the D2C LEGO Icons model has been (and still is) a solid investment, although it's one that remains a LEGO.com exclusive that hasn’t been reduced in price to date.

Packed with pure LEGO nostalgia, fascinating details and plenty of playability, 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle draws in adult fans throughout the build, instantly transporting them back to their childhood. Although the high price point is likely to put off some fans, if you can scrape together the cash to purchase the LEGO Icons set before it retires, you definitely should.

10332 Medieval Town Square

Price: £199.99 / $229.99 / €229.99 Pieces: 3,304 Release date: Mar 1, 2024

LEGO icons 10332 medieval town square cheese factory lifestyle featured 1024x576

Acting as something of a companion set to 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle is 10332 Medieval Town Square. Coming in at 3,304 pieces, what you’re looking at here is essentially a bustling slice of Medieval life, presented as a hinged model with various locales to explore and eight minifigures with which to populate the build.

However, try as it might, 10332 Medieval Town Square struggles to carve out its own identity, with the completed model being something of a mixed bag. Basing the set so closely on 2009’s 10193 Medieval Market Village is the main culprit, so we’d therefore recommend holding off on picking up this LEGO Icons release for now until a decent money-saving deal comes along.

10339 Santa’s Post Office

Price: £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 Pieces: 1,440 Release date: Oct 1, 2024

LEGO Winter Village 10339 Santas Post Office 29 1024x683

Although only a handful of festive LEGO exclusives are currently rumoured to be on the way this year so far, you can bet that the company’s elves are busy tinkering away on more Christmas releases. One impressive holiday set on its way out in 2025 is 10339 Santa’s Post Office, a 1,440 build that’s proven to be yet another home run for the annual Winter Village Collection.

Revisting the concept of a post office through a fantasy lens, the Christmas miracle that is 10339 Santa’s Post Office features the main building, coupled with a whimsical hot air balloon for delivering mail, plus minifigures of the jolly character himself and four elves. We’d highly recommend getting into the festive mood a little earlier than planned this year by picking up this LEGO Icons build before it’s eventually gone for good.

10391 Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams

Price: £94.99 / $109.99 / €109.99 Pieces: 966 Release date: Sep 20, 2024

Sometimes, LEGO collaborations look good on paper, but the final execution of a set may leave something to be desired. Take 10391 Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams, for instance. Spinning out of the animated Piece by Piece movie that chronicled the superstar’s life to date, the 966-piece set is ultimately a slight head-scratcher of a model

Incorporating a buildable rocket alongside a bizarre display of multiple severed minifigure heads, the LEGO Icons set defies description and ends up being a strange mish-mash of different concepts. One to avoid, unless you’re a dedicated fan of the singer or can pick up 10391 Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams for a knock-down bargain price.
