The upcoming LEGO NINJAGO Dragons Rising sets have a lot of new pieces, some of which could affect sets in other themes.
Coming on June 1, 2023, the LEGO NINJAGO Dragons Rising models are welcoming the new series with a variety of fresh elements, from minifigure accessories to more versatile elements. While some might be specific to the story, others could see use elsewhere in the future.
Here’s a look at the new bricks coming on June 1, 2023, in 13 new sets.
Dragon Cores and holders
Dragon Cores are the new collectable items in the Dragons Rising sets and as such, they’ve got a fresh brick with a transparent outer layer and a complex design inside. Holders for these cores are included in the new spinners and 71791 Zane’s Dragon Power Spinjitzu Race Car making them functional too.
Hoods, hair and heads
The ninjas all have new hoods, as well as an exclusive one for Arin and for the Imperium, Empress Beatrix has a hair piece that seems to be a new hairstyle for minifigures – a longer undercut. Ras comes in a few sets with a completely new head too, showcasing his wolf-like appearance.
Helmets and armour

Also new for minifigures are several armour pieces from flat and intricate to helmets to armour pieces for both the Imperium and ninja.
A new head brick
Not to be confused with Ras’ new minifigure head, both 71797 Destiny’s Bounty - race against time and 71790 Imperium Dragon Hunter Hound feature a new element that is used to represent the heads of the creatures. It appears to consist of longer curved sections, though whether this is one new brick for each side or one connected has yet to be confirmed.
Baby Riyu

Riyu, the new baby dragon, has a fresh piece too, suggesting that this character will be sticking around for some time. Right now, it’s only featured in grey, but more colours could be used for different baby elemental dragons in the future theoretically.
The Imperium sword

NINJAGO has a legacy of new sword elements, though sometimes these can be season specific. Depending on how long the Imperium is in play, the Dragons Rising sword brick could face a similar fate.
