Mystery LEGO Technic Formula 1 set spotted on LEGO.com

The listing for the LEGO Speed Champions McLaren Formula 1 car has been updated with images of something much bigger and Technic-based.

With the start of February, the LEGO Group has launched a few new sets and decided to update the official listing for 77251 McLaren F1 Team MCL38 Race Car with five additional images. These five additional images don't depict the Speed Champions model, though.

Instead, the official listing for 77251 McLaren F1 Team MCL38 Race Car has been updated with pictures of a mysterious Technic-based McLaren Formula 1 car, the likes of which have yet to be individually revealed.

It seems likely that this is a case of human error from the LEGO Group, since product listings rarely feature images of other models. As both are based on the McLaren team, it's plausible that the sets were mixed up behind the scenes.

Whatever the case, these five images have now been revealed on the official online store, giving us our first look at the mystery model.

It looks to be designed at the same scale as 42207 Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car and 42206 Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 F1 Car. It seems to be an updated version of the retired 42141 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car, refreshed based on a more recent model of Formula 1 cars.

The name of each image features the 77251 McLaren F1 Team MCL38 Race Car name, offering no insight as to the set number or name. For now, we'll have to wait for any further details and see whether the listing is updated to only display the correct images. These five pictures are featured on the Speed Champions set's page at the time of writing.

This model's early reveal comes swiftly after the unveiling of the latest LEGO Icons Formula 1 tribute build, which is launching on March 1, 2026.
