"We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct-to-consumer app. We've mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn't completely closed, we can't be specific about that ... I think you'll find the level of talent … on the television front will be rather significant as well."
The new Disney streaming platform will launch late in 2019, with at least one Star Wars project likely to be tied into the launch in order to entice potential customers into signing up for the service. This follows hot on the release of the first full Solo: A Star Wars Story trailer and the news that Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will be producing a new series of Star Wars films. The pair were never considered for a TV project, they were always being tapped for work on the movies, according to Iger."Their interest was in creating a series of films that are Star Wars-based and we've actually been talking to them for a long time ... To my knowledge they didn’t express interest in creating a series. They have an idea for a number of films and at some later date I'm sure we'll disclose to all of you just what those are. They are focused on a point in time in the Star Wars mythology and taking it from there."
Solo: A Star Wars Story will be released on May 25. The LEGO Star Wars sets based on the film will launch on April 20. The current range of LEGO Star Wars sets are available at shop.LEGO.com, with double points for Star Wars VIP card holders during February.
