More rumoured details about LEGO Sonic GWP spotted

More rumoured details about a LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog GWP suggest it could be based on a retro gaming console.

According to previously reliable rumour source carterbricks04 on reddit, a previously rumoured gift-with-purchase thought to be connected with LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog is now said to be based on a retro gaming console, with the rumoured set name 40769 Sega Genesis.

Earlier rumours only said that it was expected to be a LEGO Sonic GWP, made up of 260 pieces and with an 18+ rating. The newest information claims it will run between September 8 and 17. That's not connected to any anticipated releases, apart from LEGO DC 76300 Arkham Asylum, which launches on September 9 – but that's unlikely to be related based on the rumoured information we have so far.

The set name 40769 Sega Genesis suggests the GWP could be based on the retro gaming console, also known as the Sega Mega Drive outside of North America. It was a Sega product between 1988 and 1997 and has been sporadically available from other producers since then. This is pure speculation on our part, and the rumoured information here should be taken with the usual pinch of salt until we get an official confirmation from the LEGO Group.
