McLaren Racing team members react to new LEGO Technic set

LEGO Technic McLaren MCL39's reveal included sneaking it into the McLaren Technology Centre to capture genuine reactions from team members.

The McLaren MCL39 has been officially revealed, and part of the latest LEGO Technic Formula 1 car's unveiling involved sneaking the model into the McLaren Technology Centre ahead of time, where it was displayed for all to see. The LEGO Group set up a camera next to this display, capturing the reactions of team members as they walked into work.

You can see these reactions and the display in the following video. It was featured next to the LEGO Formula 1 trophies, which are not available for purchase.

Speaking of reactions, the designer behind the build has shared his thoughts on the new model, and you can see more of his reactions in our new YouTube video.

“Bringing this podium-topping car to life in brick form was about translating real race-winning engineering into a build that fans can actually feel. Together with the steering, suspension and detailed livery, it’s a hands?on way to explore how performance comes to life in the MCL39,” said Andreas Jensen, Model Designer for LEGO Technic.

LEGO Technic 42228 McLaren MCL39 will be released on March 1, 2026, with 1,675 pieces, priced at £199.99 in the UK, $229.99 in the US, and €229.99 in Europe. Pre-orders are open now and will qualify for the free 40885 Duck Family until that offer ends on February 24, or while stocks last.
