LEGO Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is missing an essential GWP

What could have been a potential gift-with-purchase opportunity is notably absent from the upcoming 21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

Fans of all things sugary sweet are in for a treat next month when 21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory drops as the 68th LEGO Ideas set. The model is based on both the 1971 Gene Wilder film and fan designers Roberto Ceruti and Jody Padulano’s winning 10K submission.

Comprised of 2,025 pieces, 21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory looks like it has everything going for it, from an impressive minifigure selection to a hand-cranked chocolate waterfall, but something is noticeably absent from the colourful build.

Unlike many other LEGO sets, there’s no GWP being offered up as part of a promotional push for 21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. However, one possible option could have been to include an item that was featured in the original movie and would likely have proven to be a firm favourite with fans.

The final scenes of the film see Willy Wonka, Grandpa Joe and Charlie Bucket step into the Great Glass Wonkavator, a unique device that can go sideways and slantways and any other ways you can think of, which smashes its way out of the roof of Wonka's factory.

Considering that the golden gadget would have been the perfect size for a possible LEGO Ideas GWP to accompany 21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, with space for three of the set’s included minifigures, we can’t help but feel a little disappointed by its absence.

Still, maybe some creative builder out there will be able to assemble their own custom Wonkavator at some point in the future, once 21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is released into the wild.

21360 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory will be available for LEGO Insiders to add to their collections from September 15, with a wider release for all from September 18. The LEGO Ideas set will be priced at £199.99 in the UK, $219.99 in the US and €219.99 in Europe.
