LEGO Wicked sets officially announced, including release date

Following not one but two teasers, the LEGO Group has now officially announced a new LEGO Wicked theme – including the release date of the initial wave.

The LEGO Group has already all but confirmed the upcoming release of LEGO Wicked sets, dropping teasers suggesting that 'something wicked this way comes'. Now, a wave of four LEGO Wicked sets is confirmed to be on the way later this year to mark the arrival of a whole new theme tied to the live-action films.

Coming on October 1, 2024, LEGO Wicked will be based on the two-part movie version of the long-standing popular musical Wicked. The first movie will premiere in cinemas on November 27, with the second part following a year later in the autumn of 2025.

Set in the world of Oz (as seen in The Wizard of Oz), Wicked tells the story of the witches of Oz, social outcast Elphaba and Glinda the Good, played by Emmy, Grammy and Tony-winning Cynthia Erivo and multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande respectively.

The four corresponding LEGO sets will be based on moments, songs, and scenes from the movies, featuring minidolls to represent the characters. This would suggest that the sets are geared more towards a younger audience, similar to the LEGO Friends and Disney Princess themes

“The story of Wicked creates such an incredible experience for families, so being part of the team creating LEGO sets inspired by the upcoming movie and bringing that universe to life is hugely exciting,” said Raquel Ojeda Gregorio, LEGO Wicked Design Lead at the LEGO Group. “Wicked has some of the most magical locations and characters and recreating that with LEGO bricks is a match made in Oz.

"I can’t wait for fans to see these colourful sets and hope they will enjoy unlocking their imagination, creating, and telling their own Wicked-inspired stories.”

While no further details have been confirmed about the sets themselves, the full reveal of the four LEGO Wicked sets is confirmed to be coming later this year, so stay tuned to this page sometime in between now and the official release date of October 1. We do have rumoured prices and piece counts for the four sets, but it's worth bearing in mind that none of the information below has been officially confirmed by the LEGO Group.
