LEGO Wicked fans put their money where their mouths are

LEGO Wicked fans have put their money where their mouths are when it comes to the debate over minifigures versus mini-dolls.

LEGO Wicked finally launched minifigures this year, after the first wave in 2024 was mini-dolls only. Some fans were dismayed at the original collection of sets, calling for minifigures and more adult-focused display models.

Now, the LEGO Group has answered those pleas with 75691 Glinda & Elphaba Bookends and 75685 Emerald City Wall Art, both geared towards display. The first is another in the ever-growing collection of brick-built book ends, while the latter takes its lead from the LEGO Art theme.

Both include minifigures of the Wicked cast, while 75685 Emerald City Wall Art also includes Wizard of Oz characters, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin-Man, and the Lion (who's technically not a minifigure). The long-awaited arrival of minifigures has clearly gone down well, with both sets currently on back order in the US.

75691 Glinda & Elphaba Bookends is on back order until September 27, while 75685 Emerald City Wall Art requires you to wait until September 25, just a few short weeks after the sets launched on September 1. That demonstrates great interest in the minifigures, at least in the US market.

Could that interest translate into more minifigure-packed Wicked LEGO sets? It's hard to say, and it's debatable whether any more LEGO Wicked sets will even come out. After all, Wicked: For Good is due for release this year, with no plans for any further movies. Considering they're adapted from a single musical and there's no more official story to tell, the Wicked movie franchise could easily end there, and with it, the inspiration for any more LEGO sets.

That being said, the popularity of 75691 Glinda & Elphaba Bookends and 75685 Emerald City Wall Art does show a keen interest in the minifigures – even if many have come out in defence of mini-dolls as they appear in more sets than just LEGO Friends in recent years.

75691 Glinda & Elphaba Bookends and 75685 Emerald City Wall Art are both available without any wait in the UK and Europe, and can still be bought from LEGO.com in the US if you're prepared to wait for a couple of weeks.
