Racing fans will soon be able to take a deep dive behind-the-scenes of this year’s IMSA Rolex 24 in collaboration with a recently-released LEGO Technic set.
A fresh wave of LEGO Technic sets raced into view on January 1, 2026, including the eye-catching 42224 Porsche 911 GT3 R AO Rexy Racing Car. What's more, the distinctive green dino vehicle is also scheduled to make its mark at one of North America’s biggest sports car endurance events over the coming weekend.
This year’s annual IMSA Rolex 24 at Daytona will take place from January 24 to January 25 and feature 18 automotive manufacturers, 60 cars and 228 drivers from 32 countries, as well as plenty of fast-paced on-track action.
In addition, the LEGO Group’s Instagram account has posted that those who can’t make it to the IMSA Rolex 24 will be able to go behind-the-scenes of the show, with both the full-size version of two-time championship-winning AO Racing’s No. 77 Rexy/Roxy the Dinosaur GTD PRO car and its LEGO Technic counterpart in attendance.
Clicking through to the LEGO Rexy at IMSA Rolex 24 Broadcast Channel on Instagram reveals an additional message stating that this who tune in on the weekend will be to check out exclusive content, get to hang around with the pit crew and explore 42224 Porsche 911 GT3 R AO Rexy Racing Car.
The LEGO Technic set was the largest of this year’s first wave of LEGO Technic models to be released, with the 1,313-piece 42224 Porsche 911 GT3 R AO Rexy Racing Car priced at £129.99 / $149.99 / €139.99 and currently on backorder in the US.
Boasting a ferocious T. rex-themed livery, 42224 Porsche 911 GT3 R AO Rexy Racing Car features plenty of functionality, including working suspension on all four wheels, rear wheel drive with differential, a six-cylinder boxer engine with correct firing order, opening doors and boot and synchronised air jacks.
