LEGO Technic’s oldest current set is finally retiring in 2025 – along with 18 others

The oldest LEGO Technic set currently on shelves is finally due to depart for good in 2025, retiring alongside at least 18 others – including the theme’s most expensive set of all time.

If you’re still playing catch-up on your LEGO Technic wishlist, it’s time to start prioritising your purchases for 2025. And while there’s no doubt plenty of new stuff coming across the next 12 months to catch your attention, your best bet is buying those sets that will no longer be available in 2026 while you still have the chance – not least those the LEGO Group is unlikely to try out again anytime soon.

Case in point, the mighty (and mightily expensive) 42146 Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000 is currently scheduled to retire by December 31, and given its size we probably won’t see anything quite like it for a good while after. Also racing off permanently this year is 2020’s 42115 Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, so if you’re aiming to collect every LEGO Technic 1:8 supercar (or just want the best one) it’s one not to miss.

Elsewhere, a couple of last year’s LEGO Technic Space sets – including the formidable 42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover and the small but impressive 42178 Surface Space Loader LT78 – are retiring in 2025, as is 42141 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car. Next year will see two staggered waves of departures between July and December (scroll down for more on those), while four current or upcoming sets are slated to stick around into 2027.
