The latest LEGO Star Wars magazine is an expensive army builder

The latest issue of the LEGO Star Wars magazine is out now in the UK, but it’s probably not going to be as enticing as the previous issue…

Issue 133 returns to a solo cover gift following last month’s double dose of freebies, which means it’s a little easier on the wallet – but the returns are much less interesting. Mounted to the cover this time round is a grey-helmeted Night Trooper from 75412 Death Trooper & Night Trooper Battle Pack, a set that on its own usually retails for £17.99. This copy of the LEGO Star Wars magazine costs £5.50.

So, on paper, that’s maybe not too bad a deal if you just want that one Night Trooper variant and aren’t bothered about the rest of the set. But there are two mitigating factors to consider: first, that battle pack has been available in a two-for-£20 deal on Amazon more than once, bringing its effective price down to just £10 for 103 pieces and four minifigures. And second, the Night Trooper itself can be amassed in large quantities for as little as £1.57 each on BrickLink.

Even when you factor in shipping that’s cheaper than the mag, so the only thing you’re really getting by picking up Issue 133 is the luxury of convenience. It’s a difficult one to recommend – far more so than last month’s issue, which included the new Phase 1 Clone Pilot from 75432 V-19 Torrent Starfighter, and still more so than next month’s, which will include a Phase 2 Clone Pilot from 75402 ARC-170 Starfighter.
