LEGO Star Wars did Fortnite's Darth Jar Jar before it was cool

LEGO Star Wars made Darth Jar Jar official after years of theories last year, and Fortnite has followed suit, taking inspiration from their design.

As we reported earlier in the year, the new Star Wars: Galactic Battle season of Fortnite's battle royale mode has added Darth Jar as a new outfit. Key art and trailers for the season made it clear that Darth Jar Jar was coming. Now that the outfit has been released, it reveals with near certainty that the realistic outfit is based on the LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy minifigure.

The LEGO Style for the Darth Jar Jar outfit is the exact minifigure from 75389 The Dark Falcon and since LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy debuted Darth Jar Jar in official form in August 1, it's highly likely that the design was created for the LEGO Group first, with Fortnite using the minifigure as inspiration for a realistic outfit.

It's the first time that this has happened, and it may open the door for other minifigures-turned-outfits in the future, when opportunity strikes. With a live-action NINJAGO movie on the way, it will be worth remembering that Darth Jar Jar was the first time the LEGO Group beat other companies to the punch in this way.

Unlocking the outfit and LEGO Style in Fortnite isn't going to be as easy as purchasing it with V-Bucks, though. You'll need to earn 1,280,000 XP to earn the full set of Darth Jar Jar cosmetics, then you can purchase it with V-Bucks. It's a new concept being trialled by Fortnite, encouraging you to play the game more often.

A standard Jar Jar outfit and LEGO Style is available too, with no XP requirements to speak of. You've got until June 6 to pick up both outfits during their first period of availability.
