The LEGO Speed Champions Formula 1 wave, by the numbers

The LEGO Speed Champions Formula 1 wave, by the numbers

We've picked out some of the most important stats about the LEGO Speed Champions Formula 1 sets to compare them by numbers.

Our reviews of the latest LEGO Speed Champions sets have focused on their qualitative features: the building techniques, the design, and ranking them based on those subjective factors. Here, we're going to take a look at some hard and fast numbers that Speed Champions or Formula 1 fans might be keen to know about this brand new batch of race cars.

Stickers to piece ratio

First up, a look at the sticker-to-piece ratio. 77247 KICK Sauber F1 Team C44 wins this easily, with just 24 stickers for its 259 pieces. That's the lowest number of stickers by five, coming well below 77248 BWT Alpine F1 Team A524 in second place with 29.

On average, the LEGO Speed Champions Formula 1 wave has 32 stickers per car. The highest amount is 77251 McLaren F1 Team MCL38 with 40 stickers (some duplicates) and likely one of the highest amounts ever seen on a single LEGO Speed Champions car – a theme that's infamous for its high number of stickers.

It's perhaps inevitable that the Formula 1 wave, packed with sponsorships for all the 10 teams, would feature so many, with a grand total of 332 between the 10 cars.

Proportion of male to female drivers

LEGO Formula 1 is crucially different to the real motorsports industry by one key factor: it has female drivers. In both the LEGO City and Speed Champions sets, women are taking the wheel on the brick-built cars, with five of the 10 cars in this wave driven by female minifigures.

It's slightly disappointing that none of the top four teams from last year are driven by women, with them instead sat behind the wheels of 77245 Aston Martin Aramco F1 AMR24, 77246 Visa Cash App RB VCARB 01 F1, 77247 KICK Sauber F1 Team C44, 77248 BWT Alpine F1 Team A524, and 77249 Williams Racing FW46 F1. Perhaps there's a glass ceiling even in the world of imaginary brick-built motorsports?

Size by piece count

Looking at overall piece counts – the only real way to judge on size, with each car measuring the same height, width, and length – there's not a huge amount of disparity there. We've included the average in a final bar on the end to give a sense but, although some are clearly smaller or bigger in terms of piece count, the difference between the largest and the smallest is only a distance of 33 pieces between 77242 Ferrari SF-24 F1 at 275 and 77250 MoneyGram Haas F1 Team VF-24 at 242.

The piece count differences play into the way the cars are built, with 77242 being a much blockier build with layers of tiles creating the side pods, while smaller cars like 77250 are made up of larger, single curved elements for the silhouette. Rather than representing a different size, the gaps in pieces are more indicative of a more in-depth build.
