The LEGO Group will have a presence at gaming conference EGX and the wealth of sets on display underline a growing unofficial collection.
In 2024 and beyond, the LEGO Group has been steadily building up more and more gaming-themed sets, in a way that might have passed the casual observer by. In 2024 alone, we've had the launch of both LEGO Animal Crossing and Fortnite, a much-anticipated foray into LEGO Zelda with 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1, and expansions to both LEGO Minecraft and LEGO Sonic themes. Outside of bricks, LEGO Horizon Adventures is also soon to be released.
Looking ahead, next year will bring LEGO Mario Kart sets and likely other gaming-themed builds across themes, with LEGO Nintendo sets going from strength to strength.
The LEGO Group's focus on gaming is underlined by its presence at gaming conference EGX between October 25 and 27 at London's ExCeL Centre. The booth promises to showcase new games, products, interactive builds, and offer giveaways through Make & Take events. The focus appears to be on LEGO Horizon Adventures, offering the first chance to play the game in the UK ahead of its release, alongside exclusive merch to go alongside it.
Visitors can also get hands-on with new gaming-themed sets like LEGO Fortnite and 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1, with references to LEGO Sonic and Minecraft too, with the potential for those sets to be on hand.
It's only when you see all the LEGO gaming-themed builds gathered together in one place like this that you realise how much the LEGO designers have been inspired by video games – and in such a short space of time. LEGO Super Mario and Sonic have been around for a while and one-off sets based on games aren't exactly rare but 2024 has certainly been a busy one for gaming fans, with 2025 set to be similarly packed.
If the LEGO Group keeps going with the annual inter-theme collection, like 2024's space and 2025's Formula 1, could gaming be on the cards for future years? Is it paving the way for an official collection? Whatever happens, the fact that the LEGO Group is having an active role in spaces like EGX demonstrates its commitment to appealing to gaming fans and hopefully means many more videogame-centric builds are on the cards down the line.
