LEGO 40507 I Love Billund was inspired by skyline and postcard sets

The LEGO House Master Builder behind 40507 I Love Billund has revealed which previous LEGO models influenced the development of the 2026 exclusive set.

The LEGO House 2026 exclusive 40507 I Love Billund was officially revealed today, a 1,404-piece build celebrating key locations from throughout the Danish company’s history. Details of how the upcoming model came to be were recently discussed with LEGO Fan Media, with the set drawing a little of its inspiration from some very familiar past releases.

“For a long time, I’ve been wanting to do a set like this,” explained LEGO House Master Builder Stuart Harris. “When the postcards and skylines came out, I thought, ‘wouldn’t it be great to celebrate Billund somehow like this'. It wouldn’t have been suitable for a global product, but it would be really good to have sold it in Billund itself.”

Stuart went on to reference such specific LEGO sets as 21026 Venice, 21034 London, 40568 Paris Postcard and 40654 Beijing Postcard in particular, but ultimately settled on a microscale modular approach for 40507 I Love Billund.

“It was on the backburner in my mind for a couple of years and then I had the opportunity to propose it for this year’s set,” he continued. “I actually had already developed a number of different concepts for the 2026 launch, so it was really at the last minute that I added this direction as being one of the options. Luckily that was one we chose.

“The first iteration of this set was very crude, just really a simple block model. I literally used whatever bricks I had around. I threw them together just to say, ‘I think we can make some I Love Billund set, some kind of postcard or skyline of Billund,' and then this was the final result.”

40507 I Love Billund will be available for visitors to purchase at the LEGO House Retail Store in Billund from March 1 for a limited time priced at 749 DKK, as well as from LEGOLAND Billund from March 28.
