LEGO The Lord of the Rings fans have found a fix for The Shire's problems

LEGO Icons 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire debuted to some hefty criticism for its size and price – but fans might have found a fix.

Fan reactions to 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire centred around its price. At £229.99 / $269.99 / €269.99, many thought there wasn't enough value in the 2,017 pieces, especially when compared to the two LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings sets that came before.

However, now that the set has been out for 11 days and more and more fans are starting to build the set for themselves, an idea is presenting itself as to how the build could be 'fixed'. Redditor Majestic-Persimmon42 shared the image below to the LEGO subreddit with the caption: "Stop the build! Anyone else building the Shire and thought…book nook?"

The segment of the build includes the front door and garden of Bag End, complete with its fence and signposted gate. The back would also include the interior of the first room of the Hobbit-hole, although that's not shown in the pictures.

"Honestly, if they sold just this with Bilbo, Frodo and Gandalf for a third of the price, it'd probably be a lot more popular," commented Generic_Username_659, summing up the focal point of many people's frustration with the set.

There are various side builds included in the LEGO Icons set but the main appeal of visiting the Shire in brick form has to be Bag End itself. It's a key location in both The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit, appealing to fans of both. The other parts of the Shire are fun but not quite as iconic. Perhaps, if the LEGO Group wanted to do a smaller, more affordable set, it should have truly gone back to basics and only focused on the essentials.

That said, when we had the LEGO Icons set for review, we found that it holds up a lot better in person than the pictures give it credit for. If you want to see for yourself, 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire is available to buy now for £229.99 / $269.99 / €269.99.
