LEGO Icons Krusty Burger and the LEGO Ideas set that could have been

LEGO Icons 10352 The Simpsons: Krusty Burger could have taken a different route to market, if a LEGO Ideas submission had become a reality.

Fans of the world’s longest-running animated sitcom had cause for much celebration yesterday, following the official reveal of 10352 The Simpsons: Krusty Burger. The 1,635-piece LEGO Icons set is due to be served up early next month, with a free The Simpsons Living Room GWP also available for those who get their orders in before June 7 (while stocks last).

10352 The Simpsons: Krusty Burger certainly appears as if it’ll fill plenty of fan’s fast food boxes, but it’s not the first time we’ve seen a brick-built version of the famous Springfield eatery.

In early 2024, FastBrickStudios’ The Simpsons: The Krusty Burger managed to drum up 10,000 votes and squeeze into the third LEGO Ideas review of 2023. As with 10352 The Simpsons: Krusty Burger, the fan-designed build featured the familiar restaurant, a ‘Krusty Burger’ sign, a vehicle, a detailed interior and an impressive minifigure selection.

In fact there are many similarities between the two models, which is to be expected considering the near-endless source material the sets have been able to draw upon. However, there are also some glaring differences, with the LEGO Ideas build potentially having the edge over its LEGO Icons cousin.

LEGO Ideas The Simpsons The Krusty Burger 1

For starters, The Simpsons: The Krusty Burger offered up a complete selection of Springfield’s first family, with Marge and Maggie noticeably absent from 10352 The Simpsons: Krusty Burger. The fan design even came with figures of Plopper (aka Spider Pig) and Krusty’s simian sidekick, Mr. Teeny, both glaring omissions from the LEGO Icons model.

The Simpsons: The Krusty Burger also featured an orange station wagon, otherwise known as Marge’s car of choice, a vehicle that made its debut in the very first episode of the show back in 1989, ‘Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire’.

While 10352 The Simpsons: Krusty Burger does include Homer’s colourful clown car, a previous version of the pink family vehicle came with 71006 The Simpsons House, plus a smaller iteration of his ride popped up in a LEGO Dimensions Level Pack.

In addition, The Simpsons: The Krusty Burger was constructed with 2,996 pieces, significantly more than used to assemble 10352 The Simpsons: Krusty Burger, although the attention to detail does seem more obvious in the official LEGO Icons set.

Strangely enough, both Krusty Burger models also offer similar means of access for builders, with removable roofs and hinged side sections that open up to reveal the interiors of the establishments, so evidently great minds think alike.

Despite The Simpsons: The Krusty Burger not managing to make it all the way through the LEGO Ideas review process, the DNA of the original submission appears to be closely echoed in 10352 The Simpsons: Krusty Burger.

Alas, as with many LEGO Ideas designs based on popular licensed properties, FastBrickStudios’ model just wasn’t meant to be, but at least fans will soon be able to add yet another LEGO set based on The Simpsons to their collections after a prolonged 10-year absence.

10352 The Simpsons: Krusty Burger will be available for Insiders to purchase first from June 1, 2025, for £179.99 / $209.99 / €199.99. Everyone else with got a shot at the LEGO Icons set from June 4, with orders placed from June 1 to 7 eligible for a free The Simpsons Living Room GWP, if the promotional item is still in stock that is.
