The moderation of player-made LEGO Islands and creation of official LEGO Islands will only affect the main LEGO Fortnite mode in one way.
The LEGO Group and Epic Games' partnership in Fortnite has recently expanded to include the debut of LEGO Islands including a variety of official islands and player-made islands with gameplay different to the survival-based mode specifically named LEGO Fortnite.
While this might seem like a lot for the team at Epic Games to handle, we've been assured in a recent roundtable with LEGO Fan Media that the release of official LEGO Islands won't affect LEGO Fortnite negatively.
"Those are two separate teams," explains Senior Director of Production for LEGO Fortnite at Epic Games Jesse Merriam. "We talk, we chat and we coordinate but the rate of release on one doesn't interfere or necessarily affect the rate of the other.
"We continue to try and find ways that when one of us releases something we add to the collective toy box and that's something that we want to grow more over time. There are no choices we have to make between LEGO Islands and LEGO Fortnite. They both have full teams."
The upcoming addition of drivable vehicle parts to LEGO Fortnite adds weight to this statement and it appears there's nothing for players to worry about. The only effect that LEGO Islands may have on LEGO Fortnite is adding to the resources and tools for the developers to use, according to Merriam.
LEGO Fortnite is available to play now within Fortnite alongside LEGO Islands and the roundtable interview also confirmed that IP themes are an 'important focus' for LEGO Fortnite.
