LEGO Ideas' most recent run of challenges is unusually based on trading card games with similar art styles, both Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon.
The LEGO Pokémon partnership has been confirmed to continue over on LEGO Ideas through a contest based on the trading card game, which makes it the second competition based on a trading game in the anime art style on LEGO Ideas. It's an odd coincidence, following up on the Yu-Gi-Oh challenge with submissions currently under review.
This situation is entirely to the benefit of budding fan designers hoping to enter the Pokémon challenge, though. You can now browse through that competition's various entries to get some inspiration for the Pokémon contest, given the similarity between the brief for the new opportunity and many entries in the Yu-Gi-Oh challenge.
There are still many specific guidelines to keep in mind for the Pokémon contest, which you can read about on the challenge page.
It's surprising to see LEGO Ideas and the LEGO Group embrace trading card games and anime as thoroughly as they have in recent years, starting with the live-action adaptation of One Piece in 2025. There's no guarantee that the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh set will be based on the trading card game specifically, but it is a genuine possibility as part of the challenge.
Either way, the presence of two trading card game-based challenges on LEGO Ideas at once is unusual, but likely welcome to fans of Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon.
