LEGO Ideas Orange Cat has a unique connection to 21361 Gizmo

There’s a unique connection between 21361 Gizmo and 21376 Orange Cat, all thanks to a specific element used in both LEGO Ideas sets.

Those who have already picked up 21349 Tuxedo Cat will finally be able to place a companion build next to the LEGO Ideas model next month when 21376 Orange Cat is released. The follow-up to the 2024 offering opts for an alternate colour scheme and some subtle details not present in the previous set, with one signature element connecting the brick-built feline to another LEGO Ideas creation.

In a recent roundtable with Brick Fanatics and other fan media, the designer behind 21376 Orange Cat’s revealed further insights into the new model's development and exactly which piece manages to link both the upcoming LEGO Ideas set to 21361 Gizmo.

“Structurally, it's virtually identical,” said Chris McVeigh, who worked on the two LEGO Ideas creations. “So, any of the changes that were made to this were primarily aesthetic. And there were a couple of details that I was happy to get in there after having used, I guess what is commonly called, ‘the Pagoda Plate.’”

The element Chris refers to is actually part number 4190, an arched 2x2 inverted corner with recessed stud that debuted back in 2021 and has since appeared in more than 20 LEGO sets, including 10315 Tranquil Garden and 21060 Himeji Castle.

LEGO 4190 Pagoda Plate

The Pagoda Plate has been used in both 21361 Gizmo and 21376 Orange Cat in order to capture the specific furry look of both creatures, appearing in the upcoming LEGO Ideas set in medium nougat for the first time.

“After using it in Gizmo, I just thought why not bring that in to just give it a little bit of a fluffy quality by putting that plate in several different locations," added Chris. "But yeah, a lot of little details were added here and there, but nothing that significantly changes the model from the Tuxedo Cat.”

21376 Orange Cat is available to pre-order now, priced at £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99, and will launch on March 1, 2026. To find out what we thought about the upcoming LEGO Ideas set, be sure to take a look at our full review here.
