LEGO Ideas 21362 Mineral Collection is the latest example of the theme's mission to offer a set for everyone, according to the Creative Lead.
During a recent roundtable interview with Brick Fanatics and other fan media, LEGO Ideas Creative Lead Jordan Scott explained why LEGO Ideas is so varied, as well as why they will never stop introducing new concepts to the world of LEGO through the fan-inspired theme.
"You've seen that right now we've got a lot of submissions on the platform, 146, a record-breaker," said Jordan. "So it's really about finding those submissions that catch your eye and are something different. We can do Castle, we can do Space, we can do Pirates and all those other things, but we really want to find those submissions that will appeal to another audience, or bring people into the LEGO hobby.
"We've done the insect collection, we've done a typewriter, we've done a whole heap of different products, and that's what I love about LEGO Ideas: that we can do a typewriter, then minerals, then The Goonies, then Gizmo. It's such an eclectic mix, and that's what makes it so much fun."
The LEGO Ideas Creative Lead goes on to explain that his strategy is working well for the fan-inspired theme, with seemingly no plans to change the eclectic nature of the range. This method also offers fans of niche subjects not usually covered in merchandise a way to join the LEGO hobby, continuing to prove that there is a LEGO set for everyone.
"There's a set for everyone," stated Jordan. "That's what we like to say in the LEGO Group. Especially with the adult business, we want to offer a set for everyone. This set is for people who are into minerals, such as geologists. There's a whole plethora of people who love just buying crystals and beautiful, transparent things like this. I don't think it will appeal to a wide range of people, as maybe the Botanicals do, but I think it still offers a nice, interesting display that you can use as home decor.
"We're kind of testing the water. It's nice to do something different and see who this is going to appeal to. And you never know, it could blow up and be this incredible experience we then follow up on with even more. Who knows, this could be the next Botanicals."

Whether a LEGO Minerals collection is in our future or not, we never would have seen the start of the Botanicals range without such experimentation. The LEGO Ideas Creative Lead continued, detailing that this tactic won't stop LEGO Ideas from revisiting beloved themes and product ranges entirely, but that such topics need to be depicted uniquely.
"That's not to say that we would never do something; we might if it's done differently," shared Jordan. "A lot of people question the Italian Riviera and why it's not modular because we haven't done a building like that in the past. That's why we want to encourage fans to submit things that are familiar in some ways, but bring a newness to them.
"The LEGO Icons team has a plan for modulars, and it's about finding different types of products. LEGO Ideas can bring those more niche topics and IPs to the portfolio that maybe only warrant one set, that only need one to give that experience to the fandom. That's not to say that that will never translate into a full theme, because Minecraft and Sonic the Hedgehog started in LEGO Ideas, and Friends had a follow-up in Icons."
