The arrival of the LEGO Ideas Botanical Garden seems to be around the corner but there's already some strong competition out there.
With an early look at the LEGO Ideas set accidentally already appearing online, a full reveal is hopefully on the cards in the near future. However, with LEGO Friends 41757 Botanical Garden debuting just last year, it needs to knock it out of the park to compete with not just the official set but the various impressive custom builds that people have made from the LEGO Friends set.
If you build it according to the instructions, 41757 Botanical Garden has an open back, allowing access to the plants and interior. It's ideal for play, with LEGO Friends being geared towards younger builders, but if you want a more display-focused version of the set, alternate builds offer a lot of options.

benbuildslego's version uses two copies of the LEGO Friends set and a base plate to create a contained version of the building, with one smooth transparent dome, while re-bricked does something similar in a similar structure to what we've seen already from the LEGO Ideas set. Isibricks uses three copies of 41757 Botanical Garden to create a sprawling Botanical Garden, complete with the corridor entrance seen in the original set.
The latter two in particular appear to reflect the general shape of the LEGO Ideas Botanical Garden, with one central dome and two branches coming out to the side. With the LEGO Friends set already including plenty of botanical elements and creative parts used to make plants, the upcoming LEGO Ideas set will need to be impressive to stand out from the undeniably impressive custom builds.

While we can't see much of the blurry image right now, it does look like there are some cool new plants included in the LEGO Idea set. The removable roof reveals what looks like the top of a tall palm tree, as well as the tips of other plants within. The outdoor section also seems to be littered with colourful plants in pink and purple.
This will hopefully be what helps the upcoming LEGO Ideas set stand out from 41757 Botanical Garden and its alternate builds, with the chance to take lessons from the Botanical Collection and create some unique and quirky plant life. The price will also certainly be a deciding factor, seeing as the LEGO Friends set costs £74.99 / $79.99 / €84.99. Even doubling up stays under £150, making it relatively affordable for the size.
Of course, we can't make any final judgements until we see the LEGO Ideas set in full – but the quality of the custom builds and the vibrancy of the LEGO Friends set means it's certainly got some strong competition.
