LEGO Ideas '90s challenges propose double Buffy builds

The two LEGO Ideas '90s challenges may lead to a double dose of Buffy the Vampire Slayer sets – both from the same fan designer.

Should the voting from fans go perfectly for one fan designer, we might see two Buffy the Vampire Slayer library builds on shelves from LEGO Ideas in the future. The finalists for both '90s contests – the first for bigger builds and the second for smaller entries – have been revealed and there's a strikingly similar model in both fan votes.

Bricktoria78221's two depictions of the library from Buffy the Vampire Slayer have been selected for the two challenges, in which the most popular models by fan votes will be made into official sets. The LEGO Ideas team's reasoning for picking two nearly identical models after Bricktoria78221 was already included in the first round is not clear. If they're both popular enough we'll be getting two strikingly similar LEGO Ideas sets in the future either way.

The differences between the two builds consist of a few extra items and Easter eggs in the larger version, a pair of walls, and the diorama-style base. They're both impressive models and great representations of the popular series, but it seems unusual to feature them in both challenges instead of in one or the other.

It might suggest that Bricktoria78221's bigger build isn't proving popular enough in the first challenge and the LEGO Ideas team is eager to make a Buffy the Vampire Slayer set. It still means that one franchise has taken up two of 10 total spots in the '90s challenges, though.

This is an unusual move from the LEGO Ideas team, especially after the BrickLink Designer Program Series 7 livestream last week. During the stream, it was confirmed that fan designers will only be allowed to win once every calendar year from now on to give more users a chance at getting their models turned into sets.

Whatever the reason, there's a slim chance that LEGO Ideas' future will feature two Buffy the Vampire Slayer Library sets – one with a floor, and one without. Bricktoria78221 will need plenty of luck to come out on top in both with other finalists including Mr. Bean, Wallace and Gromit and Jumanji.
