LEGO Icons 10365 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship sailed into view earlier this month, with the 2,862-piece set already on back order in multiple territories. The striking black vessel represents the first time in eight years that the LEGO Group has revisited the Pirate of the Caribbean theme and may also be the best LEGO pirate ship of all time.
Although 10365 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship does come with a dedicated stand for display purposes, one enterprising fan designer has gone above and beyond with their own take on something even better – a massive brick-built Kraken. The creature last appeared in LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game back in 2011, but has yet to receive a physical release.
The colossal cuttlefish-like creation is the work of hachiroku24, with a video of the impressive build available to view on his YouTube channel. The model boasts a Sarlacc pit-like base, complete with multiple teeth and a surrounding seascape.
To that, the fan designer has added a pair of supports that can then connect to 10365 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship, displaying the ship at a dramatic angle to suggest the vessel being attacked by the Kraken, as first seen in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.
The build has been further enhanced with large brick-built tentacles reaching up to the captured craft, while even larger appendages covered with numerous 1x1 studs are wrapped around the vessel.
10365 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship also receives some extra enhancements to round out the scene, with simple white elements added to the craft’s cannons to simulate them being fired.
The overall result is an even more dynamic take on the LEGO Icons model, one that other builders may end up emulating once they get their hands on 10365 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship.
