LEGO Game Boy is flying off shelves before it should even be there

If early shopping habits are anything to go by, LEGO Nintendo 72046 Game Boy is going to fly off shelves come October 1.

After virtually unanimous applause for 72046 Game Boy upon its reveal and pre-orders selling out briefly in the US, it's not going to come as a shock that the upcoming LEGO Super Mario set is popular. Rendering the retro handheld in near-perfect scale for an affordable price of £54.99 / $59.99 / €59.99, it all comes together for an easy day-one purchase for many.

In fact, some people are jumping at the chance to buy it before it's even hit shelves. Costco and other local stores in the US have reportedly stocked copies of the set early, according to several reports from redditors, here and here. While that's a fun find for LEGO fans, it's also seemingly led to people spending as much as $96 to buy early copies of the set on Amazon in the US. That's nearly double the RRP of the set in the first place, for the chance to build it just a few days earlier.

Safe to say, if these early shopping habits are anything to go by, 72046 Game Boy is going to fly off shelves come October 1. If you want to build it in the next few weeks, it might be worth pre-ordering now or making sure you're ready to buy first thing at the beginning of the month.

72046 Game Boy will be officially on sale from October 1 and is available to pre-order now at LEGO.com for £54.99 in the UK, $59.99 in the US, and from €59.99 in Europe.
