LEGO Fortnite has the chance to revolutionise LEGO mechs

LEGO Fortnite's rumoured summer wave is said to include a huge mech mode that has the chance to revolutionise LEGO mechs in a few ways.

A recent batch of summer 2025 rumours from Instagram user lego_minecraft_goat, who has a reliable track record, including a $229.99 Fortnite mech recreating the Mech Team Leader outfit and vehicle. While no piece count is rumoured for 77078 Mecha Team Leader, it would likely be on the same level if not bigger than LEGO Ideas 21311 Voltron from 2018 with 2,321 elements.

Taking into account price increases, it wouldn't be surprising to see the rumoured 77078 Mech Team Leader be the same size as 21311 Voltron, but it wouldn't need to be bigger than the LEGO Ideas set to vastly improve on it.

21311 Voltron Ideas

Despite the appearance of Fortnite's Mecha Team Leader, the colourful mech riffs on Voltron's design but is not made up of five individual vehicles. It exists as a single mech but with inspiration taken from multiple other Fortnite outfits.

This would eliminate its requirement to detach the limbs, allowing a massive mech model to focus solely on featuring more joints instead of balancing the number of them with play and stability – factors that the designers of 21311 Voltron had to keep in mind.

Since the release of 21311 Voltron, the LEGO design team's experiences with larger mechs have increased drastically, culminating in 71821 Cole's Titan Dragon Mech. This impressive NINJAGO mech may have been testing the waters for an 18+ mech build and it's one of the only LEGO mechs to include knee joins for maximum pose potential.

Using the £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 NINJAGO mech as a framework, but scaling it up according to the rumoured $229.99 set, it's a recipe for the most revolutionary, detailed and posable LEGO mech to date. Should this rumour be accurate, this mech has the chance to build on 71821 Cole's Titan Dragon Mech and 21311 Voltron, mixing the two for the ultimate brick-built mech.

While it wouldn't likely be minifigure scale due to the sheer size of the Fortnite mech, the reported set would still be a perfect spot for a minifigure too.

As Mecha Team Leader is an outfit in Fortnite following its appearance in Fortnite Battle Royale, it has a matching LEGO style that would only need one new element and printing on at least the front of the legs and arms.

The rumour remains unconfirmed at the time of writing but the $229.99 Fortnite set is still an exciting proposition in only the theme's second year to boot. While we wait to see what the future holds for the LEGO Fortnite sets, the first four are available now with every current minifigure included in 77073 Battle Bus.
