The LEGO Group plans to publish fiction books for the first time in 2026, catering to those aged five and up in a new partnership with DK Books.
While the LEGO Group has a long history of books, they have so far been non-fiction encyclopedias and character books. Now, the company is teaming up with DK Books once again to launch LEGO Fiction, a new children’s list that showcases stories from both authors and illustrators, inspired by the LEGO Group and its IPs.
"We are proud to announce LEGO Fiction, continuing our phenomenal legacy of publishing innovative, high-quality and commercially successful titles in partnership with the LEGO Group," says Mark Searle, Managing Director at DK+. "Our brilliantly bold list will offer dynamic and playful storytelling to help children to discover the joy of reading. We are thrilled to be building LEGO Fiction with our roster of incredibly talented partners, authors and illustrators."
One of the first titles, according to The Bookseller, is known under the working title of 'The Lost Brick', created by cartoonist and creator of the Jedi Academy Star Wars series, Jeffrey Brown. It's set in a dystopian world following the adventures of the son of a famous family of adventurers who search for lost LEGO pieces and instructions.
Other planned titles for the launch include two middle-grade series based on LEGO IPs, developed with fiction packager Working Partners: LEGO Friends Pet Rescuers and LEGO NINJAGO Quill of Destiny, illustrated by Marta Kissi and Leo Trinidad, respectively.
"DK and LEGO Publishing have transformed the reading landscape for kids and adults alike," says Bartek Jelonek, Head of Global Publishing at the LEGO Group. "The success of this partnership is a testament to our shared values of creativity, learning and play, consistently delivering the best publishing to captivate audiences around the world. We are confident that the next quarter century will see even greater achievements and we look forward to realising them together.”
