LEGO Disney 43242 Snow White Cottage has an animal figure issue

It might be packed with plenty of minifigures, but 43242 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ Cottage is a little lacking when it comes to animals.

LEGO Disney 43242 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ Cottage was officially revealed this week, with the 2,228-piece build priced at £189.99 / $219.99 / €219.99. The set will be available for LEGO Insiders first from March 1, then everyone else can pick up the build from March 4.

Taking its cue from the classic 1937 animated movie, 43242 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ Cottage looks to be packed with details, including the ability to open up the hinged set and access its interior, 10 minifigures, a wishing well and a glass casket.

However, when it comes to the model’s animal figures, the LEGO Disney build is sorely lacking. The issue here is that in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the fairest of them all is accompanied by a whole menagerie of creatures, many of whom play an integral part in the story and have the uncanny ability to undertake menial household chores.

The official details for 43242 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ Cottage state that the set includes six animal friends, although that may not be entirely accurate. Images of the LEGO Disney model show two squirrels (grey and brown), three birds (two white doves and a blue bird), a white rabbit, a spider and a pale yellow butterfly.

While that may initially sound impressive, it still doesn’t match the sheer number of animals gathered together in the original film. We’d have liked to have seen a few additional furry friends added to the build, with a recoloured Bambi figure from 43230 Walt Disney Tribute Camera being an obvious choice.

Despite including a goat, the recently-revealed 10332 Medieval Town Square also suffers from a lack of animal figures, despite being what should be a bustling slice of medieval civilian life. Of course, there’s always the option for builders to add more of their own creatures to both sets, thereby boosting what’s already on offer.

43242 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ Cottage arrives on March 1 for LEGO Insiders, before receiving a wider launch on March 4.
