LEGO crowns new American factory with a two-foot brick tree

The LEGO Group crowned its new American factory site with a two-and-a-half-foot brick tree atop the final steel beam.

Construction is complete on the main production building's frame at the LEGO Group's new American factory site in Virginia. The final steel beam was topped with a symbolic two-and-a-half-foot LEGO brick tree, marking a twist on the trend to commemorate the milestone in construction projects.

The site now progresses to the next stage of construction, staying on track with plans to start production in 2027. Virginia state officials, local county representatives, project leaders, LEGO employees, and those working on the construction were among the 1,300 attendees who signed the steel beam before it was put into place.

“This steel topping out marks a significant moment in our journey to build and open our new US factory, bringing creativity and LEGO play closer to fans across the region," said Jesus Ibañez, General Manager of LEGO Manufacturing Virginia. "This achievement reflects the dedication of our team, partners, and local community, all working together to bring this vision to life.”

When complete, the Virginia site will include 13 buildings across over 1.7 million square feet. It will include office spaces, molding, processing and packing facilities, and a high-bay automated warehouse. This, alongside the expansion to the LEGO Group's European manufacturing site in Hungary, are part of the company's efforts to increase production around the world to meet rising demand.

The factory will be the LEGO Group’s seventh manufacturing site worldwide and the second in the Americas. The company is also planning to open a new regional distribution centre in Virginia in 2027 to work alongside the factory and supplement North American supply chains.
