Of the many upcoming LEGO BrickLink Designer Program sets, there are four that modular fans and city builders should keep an eye on.
With only one official LEGO modular building per year, and the occasional Marvel entry to go alongside them, city builders seeking to expand their metropolis have another option for further expansions with a bit more effort involved.
Here are four city-compatible LEGO BrickLink Designer Program sets coming in the collection's future for fans to be on the look out for. Note that all images depict the fan designs for these sets as the official models have yet to be revealed.
Series 5: Antique Shop
Pieces: 1,912 Minifigures: 5 Stickers: 7 Designer: ThatOneGuySteve
The Antique Shop by ThatOneGuySteve offers a slice of the countryside, which may not be a dedicated area in every LEGO City. For those seeking to add a less dense zone of buildings, the Antique Shop is a great place to start. The fan design is situated on a brick-built base measuring 22 studs deep and 32 studs long, leaving you with room to insert some greenery and a proper transition from the road to the shop at the front.
Series 5: Popcorn Wagon
Pieces: 577 Minifigures: 2 Stickers: 3 Designer: Mictur
Mictur's Popcorn Wagon is likely to be much more affordable than any other build on this list and even the most organised city displays will have some spare space to fill in. That's where the Popcorn Wagon will come in handy on a curved base measuring 30 studs wide and 16 studs deep. Provided the official model stays true to the final design, the curved nature of the base won't be hard to adapt for a modular set-up.
Series 6: The Art Factory
Pieces: 2,499 Minifigures: 8 Stickers: 13 Designer: Brickester
Brickester's The Art Factory should be a top priority for modular building fans and city builders. Though their original pitch for a transformed industrial building sat squarely on a standard modular building base, the updated version has had to adapt to new rules. While the simplistic base has been eschewed, the building still sits on a 32 by 32 stud base (or 16 by 48 when unfolded). With an art gallery, as well as photo and dance studios situated inside, this is one building to look out for in Series 6.
Series 7: Sushi Restaurant
Pieces: 3,409 Minifigures: 7 Stickers: 4 Designer: Brickproject
Rounding out the selection is BrickProject's Sushi Restaurant, made up of a few sections that mix and match to create new buildings and scenes, or combined for a great stand-in modular building. While it cannot sit on standard baseplates under new rules, the footprint of this building is 32 by 32 studs without the train, or 32x48 with the train, meaning it will slot into a modular city with minor modifications to the curved corners. Whether you want to include the train or place it to the side is up to you, but it will be harder to make that segment work in a city unless you plan for some major expansions.
