LEGO BrickLink Designer Program set feature is even better in-person

Now that the LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 5 sets are in fans' hands, one Adventure in Transylvania feature looks even better in person.

The five LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 5 sets are now arriving at backers' doorsteps, giving the lucky few who crowdfunded them the chance to assemble these unique models and share their creations with everyone else.

This includes hezthebest, who is in the process of putting together their copy of 910049 Adventure in Transylvania. This has proven to be the most popular of the Series 5 sets, both during and after the crowdfunding campaign, but there's one part of the set that fans worldwide simply need to see.

The tomb in the basement of the castle pays tribute to vampire movies, and the room itself is elegantly decorated with a portrait, candles and tiling. Most importantly, a minifigure can ominously rise out of the tomb as the stone lid slides to the side.

While it's no secret that this play feature exists in the set, seeing the swift motion in action is genuinely impressive, and you can see how this mechanism was achieved via the set's free instructions.

Looking at steps 304 to 347 in the instructions, you can see how this mechanism works, connecting a series of gears and axles to the minifigure and lid, all controlled by a single crank outside the room. It's a deceptively simple device that works well, as you can see in the above video.

Those now tempted to purchase this model after seeing this feature in action won't have much luck outside of the secondary marketplace, where the set fetches a high price. Spare or cancelled copies of the Series 5 models may go up for sale at some point in the future, but this is by no means guaranteed, and it's usually only ever in an extremely limited capacity. Stay tuned for any updates, but be warned that any second chances at the set are not guaranteed.
