LEGO Botanicals to debut new but familiar foliage element

A newly-revealed LEGO Botanical Collection set will debut a new but familiar foliage piece that is likely to change LEGO plants forever.

One of two new LEGO Botanical Collection sets revealed earlier today is debuting a new kind of foliage element that is sure to change LEGO plants across all kinds of themes. 10348 Japanese Red Maple Bonsai Tree is rumoured to be released this summer for £54.99 / $59.99 but the full scope of details has yet to be revealed

Look closely at 10348 Japanese Red Maple Bonsai Tree, and you should spot a new three-palm piece that is much flatter than the element currently in circulation.

This is essentially a flat, one-plate-tall version of the existing modified palm brick, which has been used everywhere from LEGO Icons to LEGO Jurassic World, but requires more space than this new version.

While the existing palm can be a useful structural piece that adds some natural detail, the new palm's smaller vertical footprint should make it more useful as a detail-focused element.

It's already being used to great effect in 10348 Japanese Red Maple Bonsai Tree, adding on to the current large palm piece to create a layered part of the plant more easily than any of the other current foliage elements would be able to.

It's only going to be available in red as part of the new 10348 Japanese Red Maple Bonsai Tree to start, but it's likely to reappear in other, more useful colours in due course. It should then come in handy for creating smaller palm trees, bamboo and other LEGO plants that would benefit from a flatter version of the current piece.
