LEGO Back to the Future Time Machine gets Time Cruisers makeover

A creative LEGO fan builder has revealed his own mash-up of 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future with a classic theme from yesteryear.

When 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future launched on January 1, 2026, the LEGO Speed Champions set proved to be an instant hit and sold out in many territories. Now, one creative LEGO fan has used that licensed movie model as a springboard for an altogether different brick-built creation.

Redditor Shady_Vendor has taken 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future and modded the vehicle to give it a wacky LEGO Time Cruisers look. Those of a certain age will no doubt be aware that the time travelling theme launched way back in 1996 and followed the adventures of Dr. Cyber and his plucky assistant, Tim Timebuster.

“I'm a huge fan of Time Cruisers,” explained Shady_Vendor, “and I had this idea in my head for weeks. Was sort of sad no one had done it (that I'd found at least!) so I had to. Now I have to get the set. It's a great build and super fun to mod. Even found a way to rig the disk to spin, which made my day.”

LEGO Time Cruisers spawned a number of fondly-remembered sets, such as 6494 Mystic Mountain Time Lab, 6497 Twisted Time Train and 6499 Time Tunnelator, before ultimately being retired in 1997.

The fan-made mash-up between 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future and LEGO Time Cruisers adds red wings to the Speed Champions model, as well as warning stripes, a hood-mounted gizmo, a Time Cruiser robot hanging out of the rear and minifigures of Dr. Cyber and Tim Timebuster.

“This is phenomenal,” responded fellow Redditor, Skinnygold. “Love the disk at the rear, I'd love to see it in motion. Even with much of the base vehicle intact, the new colour scheme is perfect for Time Cruisers; those yellow wheels add so much.”

You can always try transforming your own copy of 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future into a LEGO Time Cruisers vehicle, with the 357-piece Speed Champions set available right now priced at £22.99 / $27.99 / €27.99.
