LEGO 43019 Football is perfect for at least one other theme

LEGO Editions 43019 Football is one of the most spherical sets to date, and it needs a recolour for at least one other theme.

Whatever your thoughts on 43019 Football, there's no denying the impressive shaping of the 1,498-piece model, achieving a spherical shape better than most other LEGO models, save for the LEGO Star Wars planet sets and other models that use larger, dome-shaped pieces.

The other notable aspect of 43019 Football is that the set can be opened up to reveal an interior scene. There's a fair bit of space inside, too, or at least enough to create a sizable stadium scene with additional functionality through the fireworks.

At £99.99 / $129.99 / €119.99, 43019 Football has a promising concept and is an eye-catching build, which launches on March 1, 2026. At least one LEGO enthusiast online could only think of another theme. PenguinRhin0 has made a great point on the LEGO subreddit, noting that if the LEGO designers can make a round football that opens up, surely they can do the same for another iconic spherical object.

A LEGO Star Wars Death Star model borrowing the concept of 43019 Football, but with an all-grey appearance and some kind of movie moment on the inside, is a model just waiting to happen. To further the Redditor's idea, we've recoloured 43019 Football to be significantly more grey, and all you'd need to complete the look is to invert one of the dishes and add a green beam for the superlaser.

As for the interior scene, a recreation of the throne room duel, but with nanofigures instead of minifigures seems appropriate, but any of the interiors from the much larger 75419 Death Star scaled down would work.

While we're on the topic of applying the concept of 43019 Football to other themes, we couldn't help but recolour the Editions model further to imagine it as a Voltorb build for LEGO Pokémon. Both Voltorb and Electrode would work, as the most spherical Pokémon, but Voltorb would require fewer decorated elements.

By recolouring 43019 Football to be red on top, white on the bottom, determining a solution for the dishes that would need to be both colours, and printing the Pokémon's signature eyes on a couple of those dishes, you've got another unique adult-aimed addition to the LEGO Pokémon line-up. As for what would go inside such a build, a microscale Pokémon battle would work well and fit with the stadium concept in the official set.

While both recolours are just speculation on our part, 43019 Football has a lot of potential when applied to other themes, and we can only hope that the LEGO designers spot this potential in the future, too. For now, 43019 Football will be released on March 1 for £99.99 / $129.99 / €119.99
