21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack is the larger of the two A Minecraft Movie sets, but with 50 more pieces and a higher price tag than its counterpart, struggles to remain memorable – despite some of the strangest minifigures in LEGO Minecraft to date.
Release: March 1, 2025 Price: £59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99 Pieces: 555 Minifigures: 6 LEGO: Order now
The villager, Piglins and the Iron Golem are all accurate to the film, and while they're much more familiar to Minecraft fans than the standard minifigures, their appearances are still suitably odd as they are in the movie. They have an almost unsettling level of detail, and the villager especially has a design that you'll struggle to forget.
Aside from this single minifigure, the rest of the cast in 21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack will be hard to remember, thanks to an unavoidable comparison with a cheaper model.
Minecraft Market Village
The builds in the two LEGO A Minecraft Movie sets aren't as impressive as some of the others in the theme, with 21272 Woodland Mansion Fighting Ring coming across as a disappointing first Woodland Mansion build and 21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack being a lacklustre village despite its higher price, making use of only 50 more elements.
The set consists of two main stalls, a pair of much smaller stalls and a much more impressive Ghast balloon vehicle. The village part of 21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack instead represents a market rather than a village – even the included stalls aren't the best, aside from their base appearances. What few functions are on offer are disappointing, especially for Steve's Lava Chicken, where instead of a mechanism to cook a chicken as we see in the trailer, an egg simply drops down from above.
In this most interesting of the stalls, there's only a single pillar of lava standing out. That's not how it would make sense to be in the game or how it's presented in the film, and it comes across as an afterthought. The other stalls are mostly empty inside, and though they have some decent shaping, they're destined to be forgotten compared to the only other model in the set.
This set seems to have been designed to fit into a standard LEGO Minecraft world more seamlessly than 21272 Woodland Mansion Fighting Ring but this mentality means that it's a less interesting build by comparison.
The Great Ghastby
Contrasting with the market stalls, the Ghast balloon in 21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack is a great build for LEGO Minecraft fans. Despite the simplicity of the basket below, the suspended sizable Ghast model is the best version of this iconic creature in LEGO Minecraft to date, and the biggest too.
It's a weighty build with a built-in function that is as well-hidden as it was in 21255 The Nether Portal Ambush, but this time, the Ghast is even bigger, more accurately representing its size in the game. Unlike every other creature in 21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack, the Ghast appears to take cues from its in-game appearance rather than the film, making it the best LEGO Ghast ever designed by far. It's a shining beacon in what is otherwise a lacklustre LEGO Minecraft set.
Our honest opinion:21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack's middling minifigures and mostly forgettable builds are only somewhat saved by a great Ghast, but that's not going to be enough to tempt most LEGO Minecraft fans.

How long does it take to build LEGO Minecraft 21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack?
There are 555 pieces in 21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack to create a village market with four stalls, a fountain and Iron Golem and the Ghast balloon attacking it.
With plenty of individual models, you won't have any problem fitting 21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack into your collection, and the most difficult build to find a place for may be the Ghast balloon due to its height, measuring 18cm tall.
