As well as paying homage to the first Micro World models, LEGO Minecraft 21265 The Crafting Table is designed to be expanded in the future.
LEGO Minecraft 21265 The Crafting Table is the theme's first 18+ set, celebrating the 15th anniversary of the game but it appears that the LEGO Group isn't against the idea of more block builds in the future.
As suggested in the name,
As well as the studs on the top (when the upper side is removed), four LEGO Technic axle connection points are included in the base, seemingly for two black base builds that can hold the microfigures and a pair of nameplates. There are four of these connection points in total.
Assuming that there are only two of the black bases to attach to two sides at a time, that still leaves two of the axle slots free for future expansions, as well as the studs on top should the roof be removed.
