LEGO 21062 Trevi Fountain had an unexpected challenge to design

LEGO Architecture 21062 Trevi Fountain's design process included an unexpectedly challenging, but crucial component to create.

There's something in every LEGO Architecture set that is fundamental to the design but has never been quite as important or challenging to design as it was for 21062 Trevi Fountain.

Designer Mary Wilson has revealed the biggest challenge she faced when designing the remake of the 2014 LEGO Architecture model, and you probably won't be able to guess her answer, but it's not the rockwork, water or details on the facade.

"I think the most challenging thing for me was getting a really strong and structured base to it, which maybe isn't the most exciting answer but it really is the literal foundation for this model," Mary Wilson shared with Zusammengebaut.

"When you're building it, you need to be able to press on it and clip in everything that you're putting on the model and it all starts from the base. I spent a lot of time developing a good way to build it so it's symmetrical, it feels nice, it flows and it's definitely strong."

LEGO Architecture models have a distinct display base, making it easier for the theme's designers to include a solid structure hidden from view and given the heavy back of 21062 Trevi Fountain, it's not too surprising to learn that this was a crucial component of the new build's design.

Unfortunately, no images showcasing the bottom of the build have surfaced at the time of writing to properly showcase the challenging foundations. It will be interesting to see what Wilson came up with when 21062 Trevi Fountain launches on March 1, 2025. The LEGO Architecture set is available to pre-order now for  £139.99 / $159.99 / €159.99.
